Good technical knowledge on C++ / Unix / Windows
Data structures like link list, btree processing.
Design skills - design of classes for say String, Stack, Exception - ability to answer 'why and how', should it be designed for a particular on-the-spot interview requirement.
Strong skills in pointer and string manipulation that will be tested with simple algorithm implementations, memory allocation basics, etc.
Anyone less than 4.5 years experience has to go through a written test, followed by technical interviews.
